Sci Fi Brings Alien Cops Remake to the Air

Sci Fi is in development on a TV adaptation of 1988 feature ALIEN NATION, per VARIETY. The property was also previously a series on FOX.

Tim Minear (ANGEL, THE X-FILES, FIREFLY) will write the pilot, a fresh take on the franchise about a veteran cop and his alien detective partner. The series also focuses on alien newcomers who move to Earth and assimilate into society.

20th Century Fox's alternative production arm, Fox 21, is producing. Fox 21 president Chris Carlisle said ALIEN NATION could be the next franchise for Sci Fi, which had great success revitalizing BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.

"It's absolute perfect timing for this type of show," Carlisle said. "They're looking for more grounded sci-fi and close-ended episodes, and at the heart of ALIEN NATION, it's a cop movie. It's grounded. And it has a tremendous amount of dramatic possibilities and humor."
