Rovio Entertainment, the Finnish mobile developer behind gaming hit Angry Birds, has teamed up with DreamWorks Animation on a new mobile game based on the upcoming 3D animated feature, The Croods.
According to a report by Kidscreen, the game will be made available for iOS and Android devices one week before the film’s release and will feature hunter-gather-type games, as well as a short animated clip. Gameplay is based on the film, which follows the Crood family’s comedic antics while living in the Stone Age.
This isn’t the first mobile game based on a blockbuster film for Rovio. In March 2011, the developer launched Angry Birds Rio as a marketing tie-in for the Fox film Rio. With the help of piggybacking on animated blockbusters such as Rio, the Angry Birds brand has inspired a hugely successful licensing campaign, with a full 30 percent of Angry Birds revenue coming from numerous consumer products extensions.
The Croods arrives in theaters on March 22.
