Set your phasers to ‘Maximum Effort:’ The Chimichanga King is headed back to the big screen. Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool, Green Lantern) will return as the infamous ‘Merc with a Mouth’ in Deadpool 3, which is waiting for the greenlight from Marvel Studios. While integrating Deadpool into the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be job worthy of ‘the brown pants,’ writing team Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool, Zombieland) have stated that it will, thankfully, remain R-rated. Reese and Wernick have also stated that drafted Deadpool 3 concepts came after the Fox/Disney merger, further hinting that Wade Wilson will indeed be integrated into the MCU.
Deadpool could encounter new Marvel characters like the rebooted X-Men or Fantastic Four teams, or Marvel characters that are already well established (please be Wolverine, please be Wolverine). What matters most to the writing team is that Deadpool has the perfect foil, much like the lawfully good Colossus in the first film. Reynolds has stated that Deadpool 3 will go in “a completely different direction,” but we’re hoping he doesn’t ditch Celine Dion. Rumors hint that the Merc will appear in the MCU in phase 5 or 6, so keep your eyes open and your guns cocked.
