The latest #DeepDive session is a virtual event featuring the VFX teams’ never-before-shared insights into the visual effects behind the Oscar nominated feature ‘Dune;’ registration is open and free.

Leading animation and VFX studio DNEG has announced its latest #DeepDive session, “Beyond Sand & Spice: The VFX of Dune.” The free virtual event will see the Dune team offer never-before-shared insights about the visual effects created for Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s iconic 1965 novel, “Dune.”

The free virtual event is March 2 at 3:30PM PST / 3:30PM EST / 8:30PM GMT

Nominated for 10 Academy Awards — including ‘Best Visual Effects’ — Dune also marks a continuation of DNEG’s creative collaboration with Villeneuve, having previously delivered Oscar and BAFTA-winning VFX as lead VFX partner on his 2017 film, Blade Runner 2049.

The session will feature a fresh and detailed exploration (with breakdown footage!) of the VFX behind some of the film’s most visually thrilling moments, from the sandworms to ornithopters, Arrakeen attack and more. Following the presentation, participants will have the opportunity to pose written questions to the Dune team in a live Q&A.

The panel:

  • Paul Lambert - VFX supervisor
  • Janet Yale - DNEG VFX executive producer
  • Tristan Myles and Brian Connor - DNEG VFX Supervisors
  • Robyn Luckham - DNEG animation Director

Moderated by VFX and animation journalist Ian Failes
