Rare Celluloid Sells High in Animation Art Auction

‘Pinocchio’ animation cell fetches $31,250 US in Bonhams auction, ‘TCM Presents…An Important Animation Art Collection, The Property of a Gentleman.’

NEW YORK -- Bonhams has announced the top lot of their June 5 animation art auction: a celluloid featuring Jiminy Cricket from Pinocchio took in $31,250 US. “TCM Presents…An Important Animation Art Collection, The Property of a Gentleman“ achieved a total of $727,150 US, with sell-through rates of 91% by lot and 92% by value. A celluloid from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and a celluloid of Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty each sold for $13,750.

Other successful lots include Pinocchio concept paintings, Gustaf Tenggren originals and an animation layout drawing from Peter Pan. Visit the Bonhams website to see what these lots sold for, as well as the full list of lots.
