Sam Raimi is joining Disney-ABC Domestic Television and ABC Studios to transform Terry Goodkind's fantasy book series THE SWORD OF TRUTH into a weekly TV series titled WIZARD'S FIRST RULE, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. The production is set to debut this fall.
The 10-book series follows woodsman Richard Cypher as be becomes a magic-wielding leader, who along with a mysterious woman, sets out to halt a murderous dictator.
Raimi will exec produce the hour-long syndicated series alongside Robert Tapert, Joshua Donen and Ned Nalle, who was the production exec on the last hit fantasy syndicated series, XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS. Disney-ABC Domestic TV will distribute, while ABC Studios will produce.
May has been set for the start of a 22-episode first season.
