PlaySquare Launches Mobile Platform

PlaySquare announces the launch of a new mobile platform and appisodes for the iPad.

PlaySquare, the children’s media company pioneering Touchable Television, released a new platform and appisodes for the iPad.  The announcement was made by PlaySquare CEO Alex Kay.

The first new apps are interactive adaptations of WordWorld, the PBS Kids Emmy Award-winning television series. The apps, produced in collaboration with PlaySquare’s partner Curious Pictures, will be available in the iTunes store in mid-October.  Additional apps, including a new holiday appisode, will be released monthly.

PlaySquare launched its first touchable television appisode in beta in July 2012. The Happy Birthday Dog appisode has been a hit with over 3.4 million sessions totaling over 22 million minutes of play. It was awarded the prestigious Children’s Technology Review’s “Editor’s Choice” award.

Priced at $2.99, the appisodes are housed on the new Playsquare platform, which will be available for free to consumers with any PlaySquare app purchased.  The new platform delivers one window for all future PlaySquare content.

“This is a pivotal next step for PlaySquare as we ramp up the creative pipeline for Touchable Television content in the months ahead,” said Kay.  “Consumers can look forward to great new adaptations of popular children’s television shows and, with the PlaySquare platform, we make it easy for kids and parents to access all of our quality content whenever they want.”
