Plask Launches Namesake Cloud-Based Motion Capture Tool

Startup tech company reveals new signature animation SaaS tool designed to make 3D animation more accessible; user-friendly design allows recording, editing, and animating projects through browser-based tool’s interface.

Plask, a 3D animation startup backed by Korean internet giant Naver, Samsung C-Lab, and KT Corporation, has unveiled its namesake motion capture and animation SaaS tool, launching after six months of beta testing with animation production companies, entertainment studios, and game developers. As part of the release, the new MoCap Pro premium tier aims to make 3D animation more accessible than ever with new features including multi-person mocap and foot locking.

Compared to Plask’s Freemium tier, MoCap Pro users will experience faster extraction, shorter processing times, and be able to render up to 60 minutes (108,000 credits) of animation monthly. The user-friendly design allows you to record, edit, and animate projects through the browser-based tool’s interface.

The smart integration of AI and camera-based mocap captures 3D movement from a webcam or smartphone camera and converts it into motion data that rigs a 3D model to move the same way. It can also convert most professional file formats into mocap animation by extracting keyframes.

The company notes that the cloud-based animation tool is especially relevant as metaverse platforms, virtual avatars, NFTs, gaming social networks, and Web3-based applications are being developed and adopted by companies worldwide.

“Plask optimizes the motion capture and 3D animation process, liberating brands and casual to professional animators to quickly and easily create animation – simplifying a cumbersome and time-consuming multi-step process and making animation more economical and feasible,” explained Plask CEO Junho Lee.

Plask’s features include auto retargeting, AI-based mocap performance, animation editing, collaboration tools, and project storage. More features are in development, including multi-person mocap, multi-party collaboration, and mocap for NFTs. Integratable as an API solution, it is fully serviced on the cloud and scalable. In addition to auto retargeting and AI-based mocap performance, the API solution allows clients to customize tools.
