Patriot Wins The Battle For International Box Office Supremacy

With several debuts around the globe, THE PATRIOT has won the war for international box office supremacy. Premiering at #1 in Germany, the Mel Gibson-starrer grossed a hefty $3.23 million. Slipping to second, THE PERFECT STORM garnered $1.29 million, raising its German cume to $8.62 million. Down one to #4, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 2 added another $1.01 million to its $22.42 million German cume. At #8, THE TIGGER MOVIE rounded up an additional $206,761, bringing its German cume to $3.97 million. In its 10th week in Germany, GLADIATOR grossed $119,979 in tenth, advancing its cume to $19.99 million. At #1 in Spain, THE PATRIOT landed a solid $1.92 million. Falling to #2, M:I 2 brought home another $1.59 million, raising its Spanish cume to $8.69 million. Holding on in fourth, GLADIATOR grossed $598,120, raising its Spanish cume to $15.09 million. STUART LITTLE fell two spots to #5, with a gross of $578,803, raising its Spanish cume to $6.37 million. Down a slot to #6, FANTASIA/2000 added $293,710 to its Spanish cume of $685,918. SOUTH PARK: BIGGER, LONGER & UNCUT surfaced at #7, with a ticket take of $218,363, bringing its Spanish cume to $876,629. The horror flick, STIR OF ECHOES, scared up $142,266, advancing its Spanish cume to $311,288. Slipping a notch to tenth, THE TIGGER MOVIE grossed $92,098, bringing its Spanish cume to $688,204. In Brazil, THE PATRIOT took the top spot with ticket sales of $1.75 million. Debuting in second, POKEMON THE MOVIE 2000 opened with a gross of $1.46 million. Falling from first to third, DINOSAUR dug up another $1.06 million, raising its cume to $6.92 million. M:I 2 fell to fourth, with a receipt total of $439,987, advancing its Brazilian cume to $10.54 million. After its first full week in Brazil, THE ROAD TO EL DORADO came in sixth, with a gross of $218,554, raising its cume to $657,401. In seventh, GLADIATOR garnered $201,956, advancing its Brazilian cume to $8.01 million. At #8, THE FLINTSTONES VIVA ROCK VEGAS rolled up $82,356, bringing its Brazilian cume to $715,625. In Sweden, PATRIOT came in at #1, with a take of $493,109. M:I 2 landed in third, with a gross of $332,873 and a Swedish cume of $2.37 million. Debuting in only fourth place, the U.S. hit, THE X-MEN, rounded up $298,638. Falling to fifth, GONE IN 60 SECONDS grossed $149,348, raising its cume to $2.32 million. GLADIATOR has slipped two slot to #6, with a gross of $132,707, bringing its Swedish cume to $4.12 million. The Oscar-winning best picture, AMERICAN BEAUTY, floated in at #7, with a gross of $40,680 and a Swedish cume of $4.47 million. Holding on to the top spot in Australia, PATRIOT piled up another $1.45 million, advancing its cume to $3.68 million. Also holding steady in second, THE X-MEN managed to bring home $839,424, bringing its Australian cume to $4.97 million. Staying steady in fourth was 60 SECONDS, with a gross of $446,058, raising its Australian cume to $7.62 million. In fifth, THE PERFECT STORM added $412,697 to its $5.86 million Australian cume. Plummeting from fifth to ninth, DINOSAUR stomped in with $108,885, advancing its Australian cume to $7.77 million.
