‘Overwatch 2’ Releases Animated Short for New Character Kiriko

The protector of Kanezaka's backstory is revealed in a surprisingly heartfelt nine-minute film displaying her flashy healing and teleportation abilities.

Another win for the Overwatch cinematic team. Although audiences were mixed when the beloved team-based multiplayer game Overwatch was permanently replaced by Overwatch 2, the hype is real for the title’s new characters. Gaming giant Blizzard recently revealed the backstory of new healer character Kiriko during TwitchCon through a nine-minute animated short, which was met with rave reviews. 

In the short, Kiriko, the protector of Kanezaka, is officially revealed to fans for the first time. The new hero has recently moved out of her family home and is back to visit when trouble breaks out. She must protect an old maintenance worker and a darling deaf child when over-the-top loan sharks attack. In the process, Kiriko shows off her teleportation and healing abilities during a thrilling fight with flashy moves and an ensuing rollercoaster of emotions.

Kiriko is also joined by two additional new female characters, Junker Queen and Sojourn.
