Over the Hedge Helmer Signs First-Look with Nick Movies, MTV Films

Karey Kirkpatrick, who directed OVER THE HEDGE and Paramount Pictures' forthcoming THE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES, has signed a two-year, first-look agreement with Nickelodeon Movies and MTV Films via his newly created Blue Shirt Prods., VARIETY reports.

The deal only covers live-action productions, mainly family films. Kirkpatrick still has a exclusive animation deal with DreamWorks.

Kirkpatrick's first venture will be an adaptation of Colin McNaughton's book, CAPTAIN ABDUL'S PIRATE SCHOOL. He co-wrote the script with Chris Poche and Clare Sera and is set to direct the project.

Santa Monica, California-based Blue Shirt has already hired former Sean Daniel Co. exec Jennifer Moyer as a senior exec.
