Osnat Shurer to Present Disney’s ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ at VIEW 2020

The Oscar-nominated ‘Moana’ producer will discuss Don Hall and Carlos López Estrada’s upcoming animated feature at the 21st edition of annual conference, being held October 18-23, online and on-site in Torino, Italy.

VIEW Conference 2020, Italy’s premiere digital media conference for computer graphics, interactive and immersive storytelling, animation, visual effects, games, and VR, AR, and mixed reality, has announced that Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Osnat Shurer, the Oscar-nominated producer of Moana, will present at the upcoming 21st edition, being held online and on-site October 18-23 in Torino, Italy.

In a live virtual conversation with Carolyn Giardina, Tech Editor at Hollywood Reporter, Shurer will share insights from her career as a filmmaker and documentarian and talk about her upcoming project, Raya and the Last Dragon, set for release in theaters March 12, 2021. She will also take questions submitted by VIEW conference attendees during the session.

Shurer’s talk will take place on Tuesday, October 20th, 2020 at 10:00am PDT/ 19:00 CET, and will be streamed live to a global audience.

After producing and directing various film and television projects, plus a number of interactive installations, Shurer joined Pixar Animation Studios in 2002 as executive producer of the studio’s Shorts Group, where she oversaw production of animated projects across multiple platforms. Shurer has also consulted on a number of animated features, including Aardman Animations’ Arthur Christmas.

Shurer joined Walt Disney Animation Studios in 2012 as Vice President of Development. In 2017, she received an Academy Award nomination as producer of Moana, together with directors John Musker and Ron Clements, in the best Animated Feature Film category.

In a special virtual presentation at VIEW 2020, Osnat Shurer will present to a global audience on a range of topics including the cultural consultancy work she undertook with the Oceanic Story Trust for Moana. She will also discuss her current work as producer of Disney’s upcoming animated feature Raya and The Last Dragon, directed by Don Hall and Carlos López Estrada.

“It is fascinating to hear Osnat speak about gender representation,” says Conference Director Dr. Maria Elena Gutierrez. “She has produced films featuring strong female characters with her team at Disney, depicting women as warriors. This is true of Moana, and I have an inkling it will continue to be true of Raya and the Last Dragon. During VIEW Conference this October, we will have a wonderful opportunity to discuss with Osnat her creative vision and the unique stories she brings to the screen.”

“Because VIEW Conference will be online as well as onsite this year, we are taking advantage of the wonderful opportunity to include remarkable professionals from all over the globe,” added Gutierrez. “VIEW 2020 will be amazing.”

The conference will take place online and in-person in Torino, Italy, October 18-23. Additional information is available on the event website.
