Press Release from Organic Motion

I/IT SEC – Orlando, FLA. – Nov. 30, 2009 – Organic Motion, a leading computer vision company, today unveiled the world’s first multiple person motion tracking platform that does not require participants to wear any attached devices, tags or sensors. This technology enhances the operations of a wide range of simulated training environments. OpenSTAGE™ will be on display for anyone to demo, tracking multiple people at the same time, without special backgrounds or controlled environments, at I/IT SEC, Nov. 30 – Dec. 3, in Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center, hall A4-B1, booth 3071.

The OpenSTAGE multi-track platform instantly improves the way armed forces can prepare personnel for the theater of operations, including dismounted soldier training (DST) programs, Military Operations on Urban Terrain (MOUT), and Close Combat Tactical Training Dismounted Soldier (CCTT DS) simulations.  Since the platform eliminates the need for any additional attire, multiple warfighters can step into a virtual world with no prep time and be instantly tracked.  This enables teams to participate in simulated maneuvers including live interaction with friends or foes, continued tracking of soldiers after they dismount in Combat Vehicle Simulators, or tracking of shooters in a shoot house.

“This multi-track version of OpenSTAGE is a major leap for simulated training and the applications are immense,” said Andrew Tschesnok CEO Organic Motion.  “We have developed OpenSTAGE to meet the rigorous demands of the defense industry.  By eliminating sensors, an entire squad can now achieve instant entry into a far more realistic training environment and have their movements tracked and displayed in real-time, all at a lower operating cost and with maximum throughput.”

To further deliver a training-ready system, Organic Motion announced that it has integrated MAK’s VR-Link networking toolkit and VR-Vantage 3D visualization solution. Focused on creating software solutions for simulation, the integration of MAK's products will allow trainees to actively participate in the most realistic simulations, with minimal negative training, all in real-time. Organic Motion’s breakthrough image processing software will analyze the video feeds to capture position, orientation, posture and motion of subjects in the scanning space. OpenSTAGE will then communicate the resulting information in real-time to VR-Vantage (over DIS or HLA), where an animated 3D model mimics the motions of the live person within a simulated scene.

"Organic Motion’s markerless tracking technology will usher in a new era in immersive training for Dismounted Infantry and their units. By eliminating the cumbersome and time-consuming process of outfitting and calibrating body suits and specialty props, Organic Motion's system enables truly seamless entry of individual combatants into virtual training environments, greatly reducing the cost of operating such systems, vastly increasing the throughput of trainees, and fundamentally improving the ‘willing-suspension-of-disbelief’ that is so crucial for engaging experiential learning," said Warren Katz, CEO, VT MAK. "By leveraging MAK's gold-standard interoperability products, Organic Motion is entering the market with the most robust plug-compatibility possible.
