Writer/director Chris Sanders will lead a discussion exploring the story and artistry of DreamWorks Animation’s new film at the Ottawa International Animation Festival, North America’s leading animation festival, which runs September 25-29.
The Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) is hosting a behind-the-scenes look at the story and artistry of DreamWorks Animation’s The Wild Robot on September 28, 2024 at Ottawa’s National Arts Centre (NAC). The Artist Talk, part of the Festival’s Animation Exposé programming, will explore how the creative team combined storyboards, scripts, concept art, and models to portray a captivating and emotional story. In addition to the Artist Talk, OIAF will screen The Wild Robot on September 25 at the ByTowne Cinema ahead of the film’s theatrical release on September 27.
OIAF, an annual five-day event, runs September 25-29, 2024.

The movie, based on the book series of the same name by Peter Brown, tells a powerful story about the discovery of self, a thrilling examination of the bridge between technology and nature and a moving exploration of what it means to be alive and connected to all living things. It follows the epic adventure of a robot - ROZZUM unit 7134, ‘Roz’ for short - who shipwrecked on an uninhabited island must learn to adapt to the harsh surroundings, gradually building relationships with the animals on the island and becoming the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling.
The film features the voice talents of Lupita Nyong'o, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, Catherine O'Hara, Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, Mark Hamill, and others.
Following the Artist Talk, Sanders will be available for a 3:00 pm free signing session in the Canal Foyer at the NAC. A Festival pass or ticket, available here, is required to attend the Artist Talk on September 28. Tickets for The Wild Robot screening on September 25 are now available and can be ordered through the OIAF website.
