Northwest Animation Festival Announces 2016 Program

Screenings include ‘If I Was God’ by Cordell Barker, ‘Doomed’ by Guillermo García Carsí, ‘Mynarski Death Plummet’ by Matthew Rankin, ‘Choban’ by Matija Pisačić, and ‘Hoof It’ by Seth Boyden.

Portland, OR’s Northwest Animation Festival is set to kick off May 9, running through May 15 at the  Hollywood Theatre with screenings of the year’s best short films from around the world.

Hilarious, dramatic, weird and inspiring... Have you ever watched the Oscars and wondered where those nominees for Best Animated Short are coming from? This is the place to find out! Selections include If I Was God by Cordell Barker, Doomed by Guillermo García Carsí, Mynarski Death Plummet by Matthew Rankin, Choban by Matija Pisačić and Hoof It by Seth Boyden.

Delve deeper into animation's diverse ecology with your choice of seven thematic shows, including Best of SIGGRAPH 2015 Computer Animation Festival, the Queer Animation Revolution, an Oregon Animation Industry Showcase, Exploding Mind! Abstract & Experimental films, Family Friendly, Strange & Sexy, and Locura Española -- Spanish Shorts.

Other events include a special screening of Coraline with LAIKA on Saturday, May 14.

In celebration of LAIKA's 10th Anniversary, the Northwest Animation Festival is screening the studio’s first feature film, which follows a girl named Coraline who discovers a secret door and a magical but dangerous alternate world. Meet the puppets in person and hear about the making of the masterpiece.

This year’s edition of the Northwest Animation Festival will also feature late-night after-parties, a presentation by Portland's newest animation studio, Northwest Shadow, Northwest Animation Festival’s Sunday morning “Meet the Animators” panel, and an exhibition of animation artwork in the theater lobby.
