Nominations Announced for the 95th Academy Awards

No real surprises, at least in the animation-related categories, with ‘Avatar: The Way of Water,’ ‘Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio,’ ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,’ ‘The Sea Beast,’ and ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ among the best animated feature and best visual effects nominees for this year’s 95th Oscars, coming March 12.

No more nail biting, at least for the moment. Let the celebrations and snub grumbling begin! Nominations for the 95th Academy Awards were announced this morning, via a livestream hosted by Alison Williams and Riz Ahmed.

There were no real surprises, at least in the animation-related categories…

Nominees for Best Animated Feature are Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson and produced by Gary Ungar and Alex Bulkley; Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, directed by Dean Fleischer Camp and produced by Elisabeth Holm, Andrew Goldman, Caroline Kaplan and Paul Mezey; Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, directed by Joel Crawford and produced by Mark Swift; The Sea Beast, directed by Chris Williams and produced by Jed Schlanger; and Turning Red, directed by Domee Shi and produced by Lindsey Collins.

Nominees for Best Animated Short Film are The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse, directed by Charlie Mackesy and produced by Matthew Freud; The Flying Sailor, directed by Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby; Ice Merchants, directed by João Gonzalez and produced by Bruno Caetano; My Year of Dicks, directed by Sara Gunnarsdóttir and produced by Pamela Ribon; and An Ostrich Told Me the World Is Fake and I Think I Believe It, directed by Lachlan Pendragon.

Over in the VFX category, the nominees for Achievement in Visual Effects are Frank Petzold, Viktor Müller, Markus Frank and Kamil Jafar for All Quiet on the Western Front; Joe Letteri, Richard Baneham, Eric Saindon and Daniel Barrett for Avatar: The Way of Water; Dan Lemmon, Russell Earl, Anders Langlands and Dominic Tuohy for The Batman; Geoffrey Baumann, Craig Hammack, R. Christopher White and Dan Sudick for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever; and Ryan Tudhope, Seth Hill, Bryan Litson and Scott R. Fisher for Top Gun: Maverick.

The 95th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and will be televised live on ABC and in more than 200 territories worldwide.
