Nina Paley Hosts Screening, Q&A for Sita Sings the Blues

Nina Paley hosts a special screening of her acclaimed film SITA SINGS THE BLUES at the New York Int'l Children's Film Festival (NYICFF) on Sunday, March 15, 2009, 1 p.m. at the DGA Theater (110 W. 57th). After the screening Paley will participate in a Q&A. Tickets are available at 212-349-0330 and www.gkids.com.

Paley wrote, directed, edited and produced this animation triumph on her own. A very personal film, which includes the story of her collapsing marriage, SITA SINGS THE BLUES is a combination of 2D animation with cutouts and hand-painted scenes which took Paley three years to complete. Additionally, Paley has gotten a lot of attention lately for her unique "copyleft" distribution philosophy. Frustrated with the traditional Hollywood studio and distribution system, she has donated the film to the public through a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike License, effectively allowing viewers to download, copy and distribute the film to friends. Paley believes that all culture belongs to the public and this form of distribution allows everyone to experience it.
