Summit's three-weeks-in-a-row champ, THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN — PART 1, descended to third, taking in another $7.9 million. With vfx from Comen VFX, Halon Entertainment, Legacy Effects, Lola Visual Effects, Method Studios, Modus Fx, Pixel Magic, Soho VFX, Spin VFX, Tippett Studio and Wildfire Visual Effects, the first-half of the franchise finale has a cume of $259.5 million.
Disney's THE MUPPETS earned an additional $7.07 million in fourth place. With vfx from Legacy Effects and Shade VFX, the Jason Segel comedy has brought in $65.8 million thus far.
Sony and Aardman's ARTHUR CHRISTMAS slipped a slot to fifth, bagging another $6.6 million. The animated laugher has a cume of $33.5 million.
Paramount's HUGO tumbled from third to sixth, taking in $6.13 million. With vfx from Plowman Craven & Associates, Lola Visual Effects, Mark Roberts Motion Control, Matte World Digital, Nvizage, Pixomondo and With A Twist Studio, the Martin Scorsese 3-D family film has box office receipts totaling $33.5 million.
Fox Searchlight's THE DESCENDANTS held strong in seventh, bringing in an additional $4.84 million. The Oscar hopeful has a cume of $23.6 million.
Warner Bros.' HAPPY FEET TWO fell from fifth to eighth with a take of $3.75 million. The Dr. D Studios production has earned $56.9 million in its four weeks in theaters.
Sony's JACK AND JILL placed ninth with $3.2 million. With vfx from Atomic Fiction, Method Studios, Pixel Liberation Front and Wildfire Visual Effects, the Adam Sandler comedy has a cume of $68.6 million.
Relativity's IMMORTALS rounded out the top ten with $2.44 million. With vfx from ReThink VFX, ScanlineVFX, 3DRevolution, BarXseven, Christov Effects and Design, Comen VFX, Image Engine Design, Modus Fx, NeoReel, Proof, Rodeo FX, The Third Floor, Tippett Studio and XYZ-RGB, the Greek mythical epic has brought in $79.9 million to date.
