New Trailer Drops for ‘Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken’

Kirk DeMicco and DreamWorks Animation’s new 3DCG film tells the story of a shy 16-year-old, who discovers she’s descended from a legendary line of royal sea Krakens, swimming into theaters June 30.

Sometimes the hero you are meant to be lies just beneath the surface.

This summer, DreamWorks Animation dives into the turbulent waters of high school with Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, a hilarious, heartfelt action comedy about a shy teenager who discovers that she’s descended from a legendary royal lineage of mythical sea krakens.

Witness some giant krakens and evil mermaids in the newest trailer for Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken now:

In the film, sweet, awkward 16-year-old Ruby Gillman (Lana Condor, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before franchise) is desperate to fit in at Oceanside High, but she mostly just feels invisible. She’s math-tutoring her skater-boy crush (Jaboukie Young-White, Ralph Breaks the Internet), who only seems to admire her for her fractals, and her over-protective supermom (Toni Collette, Knives Out), prevents her from being a cool kid by forbidding Ruby from ever getting in the water.

When Ruby breaks her mother’s #1 rule, she discovers that she is a direct descendant of the warrior Kraken queens and is destined to inherit the throne from her commanding grandmother (Jane Fonda), the Warrior Queen of the Seven Seas.

Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken stars an extraordinary cast that also includes Colman Domingo (Fear the Walking Dead) as Ruby’s supportive dad, Sam Richardson (Veep) as Ruby’s enthusiastic uncle, Annie Murphy as the new mermaid in school, and Blue Chapman (Council of Dads) as Ruby’s cool little brother.

The comedic powerhouse supporting cast features Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth), Nicole Byer (Nailed It!), Liza Koshy (Liza on Demand), Ramona Young (Never Have I Ever), Eduardo Franco (Stranger Things), Echo Kellum (Arrow), and Emma Chamberlain (Anything Goes podcast).

The film is directed by Kirk DeMicco (VivoThe Croods), with Faryn Pearl (The Croods: A New AgeTrolls World Tour) serving as co-director. South Park producer Pam Brady (Lady Dynamite) penned the script with Brian C Brown (Briarpatch) and Elliott DiGuiseppi (Lucy in the Sky).

Mike Mitchell (director of next year’s Kung Fu Panda 4) executive produces with Rachel Zusser (associate producer, The Croods: A New Age). Kelly Cooney Cilella, (Trolls World TourTrolls) produces.

Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken jumps into the deep end of theaters June 20.
