New Line and Warner Bros. have not renewed the option on the remake of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, reports Deadline.com. The original John Carpenter sci-fier follows convict Snake Plissken, who is tasked to enter Manhattan, which is now a prison island, and rescue the president whose plane crashed in downtown New York City.
Producer Neal Mortiz and director Breck Eisner were the ones most recently developing the project. The script had been written by Allan Loeb and Jamie Moss. Gerard Butler, Jeremy Renner and Tom Hardy had flirted with the chance to play the eye-patched Plissken, which was originated by Kurt Russell.
