Netflix Picks Up Hit China Feature and Series 'Boonie Bears'

Deal cut at Berlin includes third of four feature films and more than 200 episodes of the hit series.

Netflix has picked up the rights to China's hit 'Boonie Bears.'

Netflix has acquired at the Berlin Film Festival and European Film Market the rights to stream the 2016 animated Chinese feature Boonie Bears: The Big Top Secret and its companion TV series Boonie Bears: Spring into Action, Variety reports.

The feature and series feature a pair of bears named Briar and Bramble who try to stop Logger Vick from destroying their home. The series debuted in 2012 and has since aired more than 200 episodes on CCTV and Beijing Television Network.

The first feature film based on the series, Boonie Bears to the Rescue, was released in 2014. Boonie Bears: The Big Top Secret is the third film to star the characters and was released in China in January 2016. A fourth film was released in January 2017.

The deal was made with Los Angeles-based Viva Pictures, which represented the rights for Fantawild, which is the producer in China.
