Comic will play a bird woman living in the same building as her best friend in the series, created by Lisa Hanawalt.
Netflix has ordered 10 episodes of the animated comedy Tuca & Bertie, about a pair of 30-something bird women who live in the same building, from creator Lisa Hanawalt and executive producer and star Tiffany Haddish.
The project has the pedigree of BoJack Horseman, Netflix’s hit adult animated comedy, on which Hanawalt is production designer and producer. She will be executive producer on Tuca & Bertie, along with BoJack creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg and Noel Bright and Steven A. Cohen. Producing is Michael Eisner’s The Tornante Company, which also produces BoJack, with animation by Shadowmachine.
Haddish is a rising star thanks to roles in the comedy feature Girls Trip, as well as a stand-up special on Showtime, her book The Last Black Unicorn and a first-look deal with HBO.
