Netflix Debuts Studio Ponoc’s ‘The Imaginary’ Trailer

Based on the award-winning novel of the same name by A.F. Harrold, the 2D animated film follows a young girl and her imaginary companion sharing make-believe adventures; coming to theaters June 28 and streaming July 5.

Netflix has shared a trailer for the upcoming animated feature, Studio Ponoc's The Imaginary, based on the award-winning novel of the same name by A.F. Harrold and illustrated by Emily Gravett (Bloomsbury Publishing). It hits theaters June 28, followed by its streaming debut July 5.

The film’s hand-drawn animation features a unique use of light and shadow that helps convey the depths of humanity and creativity through the eyes of young Amanda and her imaginary companion. Rudger, a boy no one can see imagined by Amanda, shares in her thrilling make-believe adventures. But when Rudger, suddenly alone, arrives at The Town of Imaginaries, where forgotten Imaginaries live and find work, he faces a mysterious threat.

Yoshiyuki Momose (Spirited Away, Modest Heroes, Tomorrow’s Leaves) directs, and Oscar-nominated Yoshiaki Nishimura (The Tale of The Princess Kaguya, When Marnie Was There) serves as writer/producer.

The voice cast features Louie Rudge-Buchanan (Rudger); Evie Kiszel (Amanda); Hayley Atwell (Lizzie); Sky Katz (Emily); Jeremy Swift (Mr Bunting); Kal Penn (Zinzan); LeVar Burton (The Old Dog); Jane Singer (Granny Downbeat); Ruby Barnhill (Aurora); Roger Craig Smith (Snowflake); Courtenay Taylor (Cruncher-of-Bones); and Miles Nibbe (John).

The film’s theme song, “Nothing’s Impossible,” is performed by A Great Big World featuring Rachel Platten.
