The Monkey D. Luffy actor shares experiences growing up as an anime and manga fan and other geeky, nerdy stuff; the all-new pirate adventure series sets sail on August 31.

In anticipation of the August 31 launch of the Netflix live-action One Piece series, which premieres globally on August 31, the streamer has shared Growing Up Geeked with Iñaki Godoy, featuring the series' star, who plays Monkey D. Luffy. In the video, Godoy shares his personal stories and experiences growing up as a fan of anime, manga, and other geek culture elements and a bit about what the greatest, unattainable nerdy treasures were when he was a kid.

Based on Japan’s highest-selling manga series by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece is a legendary high-seas tale unlike any other. Monkey D. Luffy is a young adventurer who has longed for a life of freedom for as long as he can remember. Luffy sets off from his small village on a perilous journey to find the legendary fabled treasure, One Piece, to become King of the Pirates! But to find the ultimate prize, Luffy must assemble the crew he’s always wanted before finding a ship to sail, searching every inch of the vast blue seas, outpacing the Marines, and outwitting dangerous rivals at every turn.

Starring Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji, the live-action pirate adventure is created in partnership with Shueisha and produced by Tomorrow Studios and Netflix.
