Neill Blomkamp to Direct New ‘Alien’ Feature

Ridley Scott to produce new ‘Aliens’ feature set after the ‘Prometheus 2’ storyline.

Twentieth Century Fox has closed a deal with director Neill Blomkamp to develop a new Alien movie, according to a report by Deadline.

While there is no script yet, the untitled sci-fi project is set after the Prometheus 2 storyline, which Fox is still making with Ridley Scott. Scott will produce the new Alien feature as well, while Blomkamp will direct.

Blomkamp, who directed District 9 and the upcoming Sony feature Chappie, had been teasing the project in recent months but said the extra-terrestrial reboot that was supposed to star Alien veteran Sigourney Weaver was likely abandoned. But on Wednesday Blomkamp confirmed on Instagram that the tentpole project was back on track at Fox.

“So I think this is officially my next film,” he posted on Instagram.

Um... So I think it's officially my next film. #alien
