Murphy's Starship Gains Three New Passengers

Gabrielle Union, Ed Helms and Elizabeth Banks have been added to the cast of Eddie Murphy's upcoming comedy/adventure, STARSHIP DAVE, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. The film is being produced by 20th Century Fox and directed by Brian Robbins, who helmed Murphy's NORBIT.

Union and Helms will be crewmembers aboard the human-shaped ship while Banks is Murphy's love interest -- a hip, urban artist. Union will be the chief cultural officer and Helms is the snooty second-in-command.

David T. Friendly will produce via his Deep River Prods., while Jon Berg and Todd Komarnicki will produce for Guy Walks Into a Bar. Overseeing for the studio will be their vp of production Steve Asbell.

Written by Rob Greenberg and Bill Corbett, the story follows a crew of a 100 humaoid, quarter-inch-high aliens, who venture out to save their planet in a human-shaped ship (Murphy). However, problems arise when their captain (Murphy) falls for an Earth woman.

Production will start in the next few weeks.
