Multiple ‘Mickey Mouse’ Horror Films in the Works

Just hours after the earliest version of the beloved Disney character entered the public domain, a first trailer dropped for ‘Mickey’s Mouse Trap,’ featuring a predatory Steamboat Willie who hunts young adults in an arcade, while an untitled second film follows a sadistic mouse hunting unsuspecting ferry passengers.

Oh boy! The floodgates have opened and multiple Mickey Mouse-themed horror films have been announced now that the iconic character entered the public domain on January 1.

Mickey’s Mouse Trap, which cheekily dropped its official trailer on the first of the month, is a horror comedy set in an arcade. According to the synopsis, the film follows lead Alex on her 21st birthday. “She’s stuck at the amusement arcade on a late shift so her friends decide to surprise her, but a masked killer dressed as Mickey Mouse decides to play a game of his own with them, which she must survive.”

Mouse Trap is directed by Jamie Bailey and stars Sophie McIntosh, Callum Sywyk, Allegra Nocita, Ben Harris, Damir Kovic, Mackenzie Mills, Nick Biskupek and Simon Phillips. Paul Whitney, Mark Popejoy, Alexander Gausman and Andrew Agopsowicz produce, with Filmcore’s Mem Ferda co-producing. A release date has not been announced.

Next up is an untitled horror comedy, which follows the sadistic mouse “Steamboat Willie” who torments a group of unsuspecting ferry passengers. The film, set to be directed by Steven LaMorte (The Mean One), has not yet begun production.

“Steamboat Willie has brought joy to generations, but beneath that cheerful exterior lies a potential for pure, unhinged terror,” LaMorte said in a press release. “It’s a project I’ve been dreaming of, and I can’t wait to unleash this twisted take on this beloved character to the world.”

Also in the works is the horror survival game Infestation 88 from Nightmare Forge Games, which features a terrifying new version of the beloved Disney character. In the gruesome game, players are hunted by a dirty, disintegrating Steamboat Willie, who seems to have stepped out of an alternate universe Five Nights at Freddy’s.
