The creature FX designer will present ‘Practical Character Effects and Why They Still Matter’ at Italy’s premier animation and VFX event running October 14-19 in the beautiful baroque city of Turin.
VIEW Conference 2024, Italy’s premier animation and visual effects event, has announced Oscar-nominated Alec Gillis, creature FX designer on Alien: Romulus, will present “Practical Character Effects and Why They Still Matter” live at the event’s 25th edition, running in person October 14 - 19 in Turin, Italy.
Alien: Romulus is the latest film in the classic franchise that is currently terrifying audiences worldwide. In his presentation “Practical Character Effects and Why They Still Matter” Gillus will discuss his work on the movie as well as share stories from his decades-long career working movies including Aliens, Predator, Tremors, Starship Troopers, and Death Becomes Her.
After Gillis’ early work with Roger Corman and Stan Winston, he co-founded Amalgamated Dynamics, Inc. (ADI) in 1988 with Tom Woodruff, Jr. He now works as a solo creature FX designer and recently founded Studio Gillis. His stated mission is to continue the tradition of creating high quality practical characters and to promote the art of practical FX. His production company, Pro Machina, produces modest budget genre films as well as creating miniature effects for films such as Alien: Romulus.
