Monstra Animation Festival Postponed

20th edition of the Portuguese festival, scheduled for March 18-29 in Lisbon, has been postponed; new 2020 dates to be announced.

In response to the growing coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic, the Monstra Animation Festival has just released a statement announcing the postponement of their 20th edition, scheduled for March 18-29 in Lisbon, Portugal:

Dear friends

MONSTRA 2020 has been temporarily cancelled.

Due to the temporary shutdown of some of the city-run venues in order to comply to the prevention measures announced by the Lisbon City Council, the Lisbon Animation Festival | MONSTRA was left with no other options than to cancel its program scheduled for March 18-29, 2020.

However, we will do our best efforts to make MONSTRA’s 20th anniversary celebration still possible this year.

We promise to announce new dates soon.

We would like to ask all directors, producers, partners and MONSTRA friends to remain tuned because we count on all of you to continue the celebration of Art, Culture and Animation.

My best regards

Fernando Galrito

(Artistic director of the MONSTRA Festival)

The number of industry festivals, conferences and markets that have either canceled or postponed their 2020 events continues to grow: Cartoons on the Bay, E3, FMX, GDC, GTC, MipTV, NAB, and SXSW, to name a few. Pressure to consider cancelation surely continues to mount on organizers of other key festivals and conferences, including the Annecy Animation Festival, set for June 15-20 in Annecy, France, and SIGGRAPH 2020, set for July 19-23 in Washington, D.C.
