Monsters vs. Aliens Sequel a No-Go?

DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg told THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER that a sequel to MONSTERS VS. ALIENS is questionable after a so-so international performance.

DreamWorks presented their second quarter earnings on Tuesday, reporting a 7 percent drop in net income compared with a year ago. MVA has grossed $377 million worldwide so far, with $198 million of that coming from the U.S.

"Domestically it has performed at a level that would surely qualify it as a sequel, and internationally it did not," he said. "This is the first movie we've had that's right on the bubble."

Execs will make the decision about a sequel as part of their annual worldwide marketing tour. "We want to talk to people that are on the ground," he said. "To get in sort of casual headline conversation can be misleading, so we're taking the opportunity to be face to face with people and have in-depth conversations."
