Moebius Twists His Own CGI Feature

Famed graphic artist and novelist Jean "Moebius" Giraud, the man behind the dark designs in the ALIEN series, will be hatching his own 3D animated feature entitled, THRU THE MOEBIUS STRIP. "Its been a life-long dream of mine to create a feature film of my own," said Giraud. "Although its an unknown adventure in some ways, this film presents an opportunity for me to express my many different signature attitudes." The main backer of the film is Global Digital Creation Group. The computer graphics head on THE CRAFT and JOHNNY MNEMONIC Frank Foster is set to co-produce and direct and James Cox, the writer of FERNGULLY and co-writer on THE RESCUERS DOWN UNDER, has been brought on to scribe the film. "Like many successful American animated films, we are placing major emphasis on the story," Cox said. "Ive always been a big fan of Moebius both his artwork and unique style of storytelling. We are focusing on careful pacing and character development. Hes a wonderful collaborator; its been a terrific experience working with him." MOEBIUS STRIP is the story of physicist Dr. Simon Weir, who after perfecting a transportation portal disappears; when his family goes searching for him they find themselves on a strange planet in another galaxy -- inhabited by giant aliens. Pre-production has begun with Giraud supervising a team of French, Chinese and American designers and animation storyboard artists. Come November the project will move over to China, where Global Digital Creation Groups subsidiary, Global Digital Productions Ltd., will animate the picture. "Although the movie will be animated in China, we are aiming at an international audience and have approached the projects development very much like an American movie," Foster said, who was also a founding senior VP at Sony Pictures Imageworks.
