The company, founded by Rodney Rothman and Adam Rosenberg, taps animation pro to find, develop and produce animated film and TV projects; new hire follows company recently signing first-look animated broadcast deal with Fox.
Media company Modern Magic, founded by Oscar winner Rodney Rothman and former MGM Co-President of Production Adam Rosenberg, has hired Belinda Blacklock as VP of Animation. The announcement follows the company’s recent first-look animated broadcast deal with Fox and a first-look live-action feature deal with Sony Pictures. In her new role, Blacklock will find, develop, and produce animated film and television projects.
“I was introduced to Belinda years ago by Angela Petrella and immediately recognized an animation soul mate,” said Rothman. “She's not just committed to animation as a medium with vast untapped creative and commercial potential; she also possesses the skills, experience, and vision to build it at scale without waiting for permission. She’s scrappy, bold, brilliant, has worked on some of my favorite recent stuff, and is dang likable to boot. We’re happy she’s helping guide the way from here. If you’re excited about where we’re going and joining up, it’s a perfect time to reach out - we’ll need your help too.”
Blacklock began her career as an animation producer at the award-winning Passion Animation Studios in London. In 2009 she moved to the U.S. to set up Passion’s New York studio, which she helmed for seven years. In 2016 she moved to Los Angeles to join the VFX studio Electric Theatre Collective, where she established and ran their sister company, Friends Electric.
During her career, Blacklock has worked on several feature documentaries, such as Black Sun and In the Shadow of the Moon. In addition, she has produced multiple videos for Paul McCartney and The Beatles and received several awards, including the Gold Lion, D&AD, and Clio. In addition, she was part of the team nominated for a Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Interactive Program for the Game of Thrones 360 Main Title.
Since its founding in 2021, Modern Magic has established a diverse slate of projects, in both film and television with artists and studio partners, including Columbia Pictures; Fox; Sony Pictures Animation; Illumination; Interscope; Warner Brothers; Skydance; Picturestart; FX; Sony Pictures Television; and 20th Television.
Modern Magic is represented by UTA.
