MOCAtv Announces 'Aboveground Animation' Screening

MOCAtv presents Aboveground Animation screening, featuring new commissions by Kathleen Daniel, Barry Doupe, Erin Dunn, Casey Jane Ellison, Lauren Gregory and Jacolby Satterwhite, on Thursday, May 30.

LOS ANGELES – MOCAtv announced that it will present Aboveground Animation’s first screening of 2013. The Aboveground Animation curation and screening is part of MOCAtv’s ongoing Artist Video Projects series that aims to put a spotlight on emerging and established contemporary video artists.

The screening will debut six new animations commissioned by MOCAtv that explore worlds within worlds and the concept of creationism that is inherent to the process and methodology of animation. The artists featured in the screening include Kathleen Daniel, Barry Doupe, Erin Dunn, Casey Jane Ellison, Lauren Gregory, and Jacolby Satterwhite, each demonstrating a diverse range of animation techniques and styles.

Aboveground Animation will screen on Thursday, May 30, 2013at 8pm in the Ahmanson Auditorium at The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA), doors open at 7pm. The six new commissions will also be on view on MOCAtv at youtube.com/mocatv.

Since MOCAtv’s launch in October 2012, Artist+Video+Projects has featured work by notable video artists and animators such as Meredith Danluck, Naomi Fisher, Jesper Just, Shana Moulton, Seth Price, Jim Shaw, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, and many more.

MOCAtv is an innovative initiative established as a digital extension of The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA) to reach a global audience interested in contemporary visual culture. Since last October, the channel has reached over 3 million views and over 100,000 subscribers. MOCAtv remains the first and only dedicated art channel to be part of YouTube's original channels announced October 2011, and is part of YouTube Education. The channel's programming is presented in six distinctive strands, including Artist Video Projects, The Artist’s Studio, Art in The Streets, Art   Music, MOCA U, YouTube Curated by, that explore the confluence of art and related creative disciplines and cultural developments.
