Misha Green to Write and Direct ‘Tomb Raider’ Sequel

The ‘Lovecraft Country’ creator joins the treasure hunting team alongside Alicia Vikander, who will reprise her role as Lara Croft under the MGM banner.

Break out your bow and arrows, because Tomb Raider is getting a sequel. Alicia Vikander will return as Lara Croft, continuing Angelina Jolie’s impressive legacy as the badass treasure hunter. Joining the team will be Misha Green; according to The Hollywood Reporter, “The Lovecraft Country creator will write and direct the project for MGM.”

The last Vikander-led Tomb Raider film debuted in 2018 to rather mixed reviews, so hopefully Green can breathe some new life into the franchise. While the sequel project is still in early stages of development, and no plot has been announced, we do know the 2018 film drew heavily from the 2013 Tomb Raider game by Crystal Dynamics.  The second game in the series, Rise of the Tomb Raider, placed Croft in Siberia in search of the fabled city of Kitezh. Could this be a launching point for the film as well?

Green also worked on WGN’s Underground and FX’s Sons of Anarchy; her film The Mother is coming soon to Netflix.
