Milk Launches Barcelona VFX Studio

The award-winning visual effects house’s latest expansion leverages London infrastructure while building on relationships with regional talent; new facility helmed by long-time employee and 2D supervisor Jorge Oliva Ruiz de Leon.

Award-winning VFX studio Milk has announced the launch of a new studio in Poble Nou, Barcelona, building on the company’s long-standing relationship with talent in the region. Milk 2D supervisor Jorge Oliva Ruiz de Leon, who has worked nine years in the studio’s London and then Barcelona facilities, leads the creative team.

Ruiz de Leon joined Milk following stints at MPC and Framestore and an early career in Spain. His experience includes work on Guardians of the Galaxy; RoboCop; Adrift; Fantastic Beasts; Where to Find Them, and most recently MeTime and The Woman King.

The new Barcelona Studio is in the @22 district in Poble Nou, an area known for innovation, tech, and VFX, as well as home to the FX Barcelona Film School. The studio will serve as a hub for Milk Spain’s hybrid, remote and studio-based team, leveraging Milk’s London infrastructure.

The announcement follows the studio’s acquisition of Lola Post Production last year and the recent launches of Studios in Bordeaux and Dublin.

“We are delighted to be opening in Spain,” said Milk executive chairman Jag Mundi. “It is a country with a thriving VFX industry, great talent, and potential. With the network of studios we will now have, we can become a truly European studio able to access and develop talent and enhance our premium offering to our clients.”

“I’m excited Milk is again able to back our talent, in this case Jorge and our other colleagues in Spain, to help us expand our potential and harness the rich pool of creative VFX talent in the country,” added Milk chief creative officer Sara Bennett. “The team will deliver both feature and episodic projects working closely with the teams in London and our other studios in Europe. I have had the pleasure of working with Jorge for many years, and I know he is very passionate about helping us build a strong creative team in Spain.”
