Meatballs Gobbled Up at Box Office

In the third largest opening in September history, Sony's CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS easily won the weekend, Sept. 18-20.

In the third largest opening in September history, Sony's CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS easily won the weekend, Sept. 18-20. The 3-D CG feature earned $30.1 million.

At #2, Stephen Soderbergh's satirical whistleblower flick THE INFORMANT! tapped $10.5 million in its debut.

Last week's #1 TYLER PERRY'S I CAN DO BAD ALL BY MYSELF slipped to third, collecting another $10.1 million, bringing its cume to $37.9 million.

Two other debuts ranked fourth and fifth -- Universal's LOVE HAPPENS (with vfx by Mr. X) at #4 with $8.46 million and Fox's JENNIFER'S BODY (with vfx by MPC Vancouver) at #5 with $6.8 million. The Megan Fox horror flick's weak performance, along with the soft performance from Sam Raimi's DRAG ME TO HELL earlier in the year, seems to show that audiences aren't down with scares mixed with laughs.

Focus Feature's 9, produced by Starz Animation, dives from second to sixth, snatching up another $5.46 million, ascending its cume to $22.8 million.

Universal and Weinstein Co.'s INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS (with vfx by Die Nefzers, K.N.B. Effects Group and CIS Hollywood) stomps in an additional $3.6 million, lifting its cume to $109.9 million.

Fox's rom-com ALL ABOUT STEVE (with vfx by Flash Film Works) made $3.4 million in eighth, making its box office totals $26.7 million.

Horror closes out the top ten. SORORITY ROW from Summit Ent. stacked up $2.49 million, making its cash pile worth $8.87 million. New Line's THE FINAL DESTINATION (with vfx by Amalgamated Pixels, CafeFX, Cinema Production Services, Gradient Effects and Hybride Technologies) earned $2.38 million, bringing its cume to $62.4 million.
