Max Payne Shoots Out Competition For Box Office Win

The Mark Wahlberg-led videogame adaptation MAX PAYNE won its opening weekend (ending October 19) with $17.64M. The Fox film has vfx by Mr. X and SPIN VFX.

Disney's BEVERLY HILLS CHIHUAHUA (vfx by Tippett Studio, Cinesite, Image Engine Design, K.N.B. Effects Group, Kerner Optical, Proof, Realscan 3D and Svengali Visual Effects) dropped one place after two weeks at the top, bringing in $11.4M for a three-week cume of $69.3M.

Newcomer THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES (Fox Searchlight) opened in third with $10.5M. The Oprah's Book Club selection-turned-film's vfx were by Hammerhead Productions and Lola Visual Effects.

Oliver Stone's presidential biopic W. (Lionsgate) opened in fourth with $10.5M.

EAGLE EYE (Paramount/DreamWorks, vfx by Sony Pictures Imageworks, The Third Floor and Kerner Optical) placed fifth with $7M and a four-week gross of $81.02M.

CIA thriller BODY OF LIES dropped to sixth place with $6.82M and $24.4M in two weeks in release. The Warner Bros. film's vfx were by Sony Pictures Imageworks.

Screen Gems' screamer QUARANTINE (vfx by Lola Visual Effects and Almost Human) earned $6.1M and seventh place, with a two-week cume of $24.5M.

Eighth place went to the musically minded NICK AND NORAH'S INFINITE PLAYLIST (Sony) with $3.7M and $26.5M in three weeks.

Opener SEX DRIVE (Summit Ent.) brought in $3.6M, good enough for ninth place.

Richard Gere-Diane Lane romancer NIGHTS IN RODANTHE rounded out the top ten with $2.66M for a four-week total of $36.87M.

In animation, Disney-Pixar's WALL-E brought in $342,730 and has a 17-week cume of $222.1M.

MGM's IGOR made $242,231 for a five-week cume of $18.5M. STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS (Warner Bros.) made $100,933 and has made more than $35M in 10 weeks.

FLY ME TO THE MOON (Summit Ent.) earned $42,949 for $12.1M in 10 weeks. Fox's SPACE CHIMPS made $26,805 and $30M in 14 weeks.
