Matthew McConaughey to Voice Illumination’s 2016 Animated Feature

‘Interstellar’ actor is the first to board the untitled animated project to be directed by Garth Jennings.

Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey has joined the cast of the currently untitled 2016 Illumination Entertainment film, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter.

Not much is known about the animated feature other than the fact that it’s being directed by Garth Jennings (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Son of Rambow) and that it will be a musical about “courage, competition, and carrying a tune.” Illumination Entertainment’s Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy are producing.

This will be Matthew McConaughey’s second animated film of 2016 after it was previously announced that he will lend his voice to the upcoming LAIKA samurai feature, Kubo and the Two Strings.

This untitled Illumination Entertainment film will be released in 2016.

Illumination Entertainment’s next film is Minions, with a voice cast led by Sandra Bullock and Jon Hamm. Minions arrives in theaters on July 10, 2015.
