Mary Nittolo Receives ASIFA-East’s First-Ever ‘Women in Animation’ Award

NYC-based design/animation company the STUDIO’s ‘Give Luci’ PSA wins organization’s Independent Animation Award.

Halfway through 2015, the honors for New York-based design and animation production company the STUDIO continue. Last month, the STUDIO founder and creative director Mary Nittolo was honored with ASIFA-East’s first-ever Women in Animation award, given at the 46th Annual ASIFA-East Animation Festival awards ceremony. Additionally, the STUDIO’s pro-bono work on the “Give Luci” PSA via agency FCB Garfinkel won ASIFA’s award for Independent Animation.

“I was extreme moved by winning the first-ever ASIFA’s Women in Animation award,” Nittolo said of the honor. “There are far too few women in 3D animation and even less running studios. With the help of organizations like ASIFA that can start to change.”

The STUDIO provided 3D animation and design work on “Give Luci,” a two-minute PSA by solar lighting company MPOWERD and their Luci inflatable solar light initiative to get their products into the hands of 90 million students without electricity across sub-Saharan Africa.

Other recent work from the STUDIO includes the graphics package to season two of MTV’s Rebel Music, as well as the short F Is for Fox for an episode of Sesame Street on PBS Kids.
