‘Marona’s Fantastic Tale’ Virtual Theatrical Release Coming June 12

Via virtual cinema partners, audiences can support their local arthouse cinemas from the comfort of their own homes.

NEW YORK -- GKIDS has announced the North American virtual theatrical release of Marona’s Fantastic Tale, from director Anca Damian. Starting June 12, 2020, the film will be available through virtual cinema partner links. The virtual release also features an interview with director Anca Damian.

Initial virtual cinema partners include the Laemmle Theaters in Los Angeles and The Museum of the Moving Image in New York City, with additional partner theaters and organizations to be added. A percentage of the net proceeds of every ‘ticket’ sold will go to listed partner theaters and related organizations. Through these virtual cinema affiliate links, audiences can support their local arthouse cinema and other local partners while enjoying the new release from the comfort of their homes.

“While GKIDS and our exhibition partners’ original intention was for audiences to enjoy Marona’s Fantastic Tale as an in-theater experience, we are elated to bring this beautiful, touching film to home viewers through virtual cinema,” commented GKIDS director of distribution, Chance Huskey. “During this time when many of us are socially isolated, we are hopeful that this film will serve as a reminder to cherish even the smallest moments with our friends and companions.”

The film features Marona, a mixed-breed Labrador, who after an accident, reflects on her past homes and experiences. Journeying back through her memories, she reflects on the deep impressions she has made on her owners’ lives. Marona's Fantastic Tale is a beautiful and emotional story of an average dog and her extraordinary life, delivered alongside colorful, sweeping designs produced in part by artist Brecht Evens.
