Lucasfilm Unveils Upcoming Project Slate at D23

An embarrassment of riches - trailers, film stills, key art, and imagery were shared for ‘Andor,’ ‘Willow,’ ‘Star Wars: The Bad Batch,’ ‘Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi,’ ‘Ahsoka,’ ‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew,’ ‘The Mandalorian,’ and ‘Indiana Jones.’

Just when we thought we saw it all at D23, Lucasfilm revealed its exciting slate of upcoming projects fans were dying to hear about. Representing the powerhouse studio, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy took the stage to showcase the upcoming lineup of all the content from the extended universe of Star Wars and beyond. “As you can see, there is an immense amount of exciting new Star Wars storytelling to come from Lucasfilm. The quality, creativity, and variety these teams are bringing to Disney+ is absolutely remarkable, and I can’t wait for everyone to experience each of them.”

Trailers, film stills, key art, and imagery were shared for Andor, Willow, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, Ahsoka, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, The Mandalorian, and Indiana Jones.

Andor Season One premieres exclusively on Disney+ September 21, 2022.

The 24-episode spy thriller features Cassian Andor of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The series takes place five years before the events of the film, where Cassian must embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero. Andor presents Star Wars from a different perspective, focusing on everyday people whose lives are affected by the Empire. Stars Genevieve O’Reilly, Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona and Diego Luna screened the final trailer for the series, which will be filmed over two 12-episode seasons. The series also stars Stellan Skarsgård, Forest Whitaker, Denise Gough, Fiona Shaw and Faye Marsay. Toby Haynes, Susanna White and Benjamin Caron direct specific episodes, and Kathleen Kennedy, Tony Gilroy, Sanne Wohlenberg, Diego Luna and Michelle Rejwan executive produce. Gilroy is also the creator and showrunner.

Willow begins streaming on Disney+ November 30, 2022.

The new live-action fantasy-adventure series, picking up from the 1988 film by George Lucas and Ron Howard, follows Willow Ufgood (Warwick Davis) in a magical world where brownies, sorcerers, trolls, and other mystical creatures flourish. Willow is the story of an unlikely group of heroes who set off on a dangerous quest, facing their inner demons and coming together to save their world. An epic period fantasy told with a modern sensibility and plenty of humor, heart, energy and vibrance. Davis was joined by stars Joanne Whalley (Sorsha), Ruby Cruz (Kit), Erin Kellyman (Jade), Ellie Bamber (Dove), Dempsey Bryk (Airk), Amar Chadha-Patel (Boorman) and Tony Revolori (Graydon), and Christian Slater.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch will begin streaming on Disney+ with a two-episode premiere on January 4, 2023.

The upcoming 16-episode second season of the animated series takes place months after the events on Kamino, as the Bad Batch continue their journey navigating the Empire after the fall of the Republic. Star Wars: The Bad Batch features the voices of Dee Bradley Baker and Michelle Ang, with Dave Filoni, Carrie Beck, Athena Portillo, Brad Rau and Jennifer Corbett serving as executive producers. Rau also serves as supervising director with Corbett as head writer.

Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi will debut all six shorts on Disney+ October 26, 2022.

The series consists of six new animated shorts, featuring parables built around the Jedi from the prequel era. Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku are put to the test as they make choices that will define their destinies. The series is created by executive producer Filoni, with Beck and Portillo serving as executive producers.

Ahsoka is slated for an exclusive Disney+ release in 2023.

The new live-action series stars Rosario Dawson in the title role. Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka follows the former Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy. Executive producer Jon Favreau joined the stage to talk about the project and shared first-look images with attendees. The executive producers are Filoni, Favreau, Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and Beck with Karen Gilchrist as co-executive producer.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

Creators Jon Watts and Christopher Ford spoke about the upcoming Disney+ series, which tells the story of four kids who find themselves lost in in the vastness of the galaxy trying to find their way home. The series will star Jude Law, and is executive produced by Favreau, Filoni, Watts, Ford, Kennedy, and Michelle Rejwan. A release date has not been announced.

The Mandalorian Season 3 will launch on Disney+ in 2023.

In the third season of The Mandalorian, Din Djarin and Grogu have been reunited and continue their journey through the lawless galaxy. Series stars Pedro Pascal, Katee Sackhoff, Amy Sedaris, Giancarlo Esposito and Emily Swallow, along with executive producer Rick Famuyiwa, shared the Season 3 teaser trailer with the audience. Kennedy and Wilson also executive produce, with Gilchrist and Beck as co-executive producers.

Indiana Jones swings into theaters June 30, 2023.

Director James Mangold shared new details along with a sizzle reel from the upcoming fifth installment of the Indiana Jones franchise. Harrison Ford took the stage alongside co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Ford, who was a little emotional on stage, said, “Thank you for making these films such an incredible experience for all of us. I’m very proud to say that this one if fantastic, and [Waller-Bridge] is one of the reasons.”
