Kung Fu Panda 2 Can't Hang with Hangover II

KUNG FU PANDA 2 didn't bring the thunder over the Memorial Day weekend.

KUNG FU PANDA 2 didn't bring the thunder over the Memorial Day weekend. The sequel placed second earning $47.8 million over the weekend and $68 million for its first five days, having opened on Thursday. The original earned $60.3 million in its first three days on a non-holiday weekend. The disappointing numbers have pushed DreamWorks Animation stock down to a two-year low.

Warner Bros., however, couldn't be happier with the performance of THE HANGOVER II. The R-rated sequel earned $86 million over the weekend and $137.4 million over its first five days. The raunchy comedy is now the highest grossing weekend ever for a live-action laugher and only second to THE MATRIX RELOADED for an R-rated film. The Thailand-set comedy had its biggest day on Thursday with $31.6 million, which projects the film would have most likely out-grossed FAST FIVE and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES' top weekend openings of the year if it would have opened on Friday.

PIRATES 4 dropped anchor in third with $39.6 million. With vfx from BlueBolt, Cinesite, Hirota Paint Industries (HPI), Hydraulx, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), Method Studios, CIS Hollywood, Kerner Optical, Mova, Moving Picture Company (MPC), Pixel Liberation Front and Rising Sun Pictures, the Johnny Depp-starrer has sailed away with $153.2 million thus far.

Universal's BRIDESMAIDS walked down the aisle to sit in fourth place, catching $16.6 million. The female HANGOVER-esque comedy has amassed $85.2 million to date.

Paramount's THOR landed in fifth with $9.4 million. With vfx from BUF, CEG Media, Digital Domain, Fuel VFX, Hirota Paint Industries (HPI), Legacy Effects, Luma Pictures, The Base Studio, The Third Floor and Whiskytree, the Marvel comics inspired actioner has a cume of $159.7 million.

Universal's FAST FIVE parked in sixth with $6.44 million. With vfx from BlueBolt, Factory VFX, Method Studios, Moving Picture Company (MPC), Pixomondo, Proof and With A Twist Studio, the latest installment in the popular car porn franchise has brought in $195.8 million.

Woody Allen's latest comedy, MIDNIGHT IN PARIS, expanded to 58 screens and ended up placing seventh. The fantastic laugher earned $1.93 million, lifting its cume to $3.52 million.

Warner Bros.' SOMETHING BORROWED held strong in eighth, bringing in another $1.86 million, which lifted its cume to $34.8 million.

Fox and Blue Sky's RIO nested in ninth with $1.83 million. The animated musical comedy has raised $134.9 million to date.

TriStar's JUMPING THE BROOM swept into tenth with $1.83 million. The romcom has a cume of $34.1 million.
