Warner Bros. and CBS Films are set to bring Stephen King's THE STAND to the big screen, according to Heat Vision. Mosaic and Roy Lee are the producers. King will be involved in some producing capacity.

Warners will market and distribute the film, while co-developing and co-producing with CBS, who has the option to co-fund the production. CBS holds the rights to the property and Warner Bros. beat out Fox and Sony in a bidding battle.

The studios will start looking for writers and directors. It is yet undetermined whether it will be one film or a series of films.

The epic post-apocalyptic tale was previously adapted by ABC into a six-hour miniseries. The 1994 production starred Gary Sinise, Molly Ringwald, Jamey Sheridan and Ruby Dee.
