Kevin Smith Directing TV's Reaper

Kevin Smith has signed on his first gig directing for a TV pilot, REAPER, a supernatural-themed CW drama pilot from exec producer Mark Gordon (GREY'S ANATOMY), VARIETY reported.

Smith is amongst several major TV and film directors lined up by The CW's drama chief Thom Sherman for a slate of drama pilots, including James Frawley and brothers Josh and Jonah Pate, as well as Rod Lurie and Mark Piznarski.

Smith starts shooting next month on REAPER, an ABC Television Studio-produced hour about a 21-year-old slacker who ends up becoming Satan's bounty hunter who retrieves souls lost from hell.

In addition, Frawley (THE MUPPET MOVIE) will direct the untitled Maggie Friedman project, an hour about a young woman with magical powers.

Smith's previous TV experience was adapting his film, CLERKS, as a short-lived animated series for ABC that he exec produced.

Smith most recently directed CLERKS 2 and had an onscreen part in CATCH AND RELEASE.
