Karate Kid Beats A-Team at Box Office

Another '80s revamp didn't fare as well. Fox's THE A-TEAM premiered in second. With vfx from Digital Domain, Hydraulx, The Moving Picture Company (MPC), Proof and Soho VFX, the over-the-top actioner only brought in $26 million.

Three-week champ, SHREK FOREVER AFTER, came in third with another $15.8 million. The DreamWorks hit has collected $210.1 million thus far in the States.

Universal's GET HIM TO THE GREEK arrived in fourth with $10.1 million. The raunchy rock 'n roll comedy has a total of $36.5 million in box office receipts.

Lionsgate's KILLERS slipped from third to fifth, bringing in another $8.17 million. The romantic actioner has earned $30.7 million so far.

Disney's PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME leapt into sixth, snatching an additional $6.6 million. With visual effects from Double Negative, Bain VFX, BlueBolt, Centroid Motion Capture, Cinesite, Framestore, Lipsync Post, Matte Painting, Mobius MC, The Moving Picture Company (MPC), Nvizage, Nvizible and Peerless Camera Company, the video game adaptation has amassed $72.3 million to date.

Fox's MARMADUKE barked up an additional $6 million in seventh. With vfx from CIS Vancouver, Cinesite, Hydraulx and Rhythm and Hues, the talking dog flick has buried $22.3 million.

Coming in at #8, SEX IN THE CITY 2 purchased another $5.53 million. The ode to consumerism has collected $84.7 million.

The summer's first hit, IRON MAN 2, placed ninth, making $4.55 million. With visual effects from Industrial Light & Magic, Double Negative, Hydraulx, Centroid Motion Capture, The Embassy Visual Effects, Evil Eye Pictures, Fuel International, Legacy Effects, Lola Visual Effects, Pixel Liberation Front, Pixomondo, Prologue Films, Svengali Visual Effects, The Third Floor and Trixter Film, the superhero spectacle has a cume of $299.3 million.

Warner Bros.' Splice rounded out the top ten with $2.86 million. With vfx from C.O.R.E. Digital Pictures, BUF, K.N.B. Effects Group and Mac Guff Ligne, the horror flick has made $13 million.
