Jonas Brothers Can't Beat Madea in Box Office Sing-off

TYLER PERRY'S MADEA GOES TO JAIL's weekend gross dropped almost 60 percent, but still came in the top spot at the box office, with $16.2 million for Lionsgate, and a two-week cume of $64.5M.

Opener JONAS BROTHERS: THE 3D CONCERT EXPERIENCE (Disney, vfx by Furious FX and Tippett Studio) placed second with $12.5M, lower than was expected. The regular theater per-screen average was healthy, though, at almost $10,000 and the film grossed $765,000 in select IMAX 3-D screens for a per-screen average of about $15,000. The limited IMAX engagement runs through March 5.

Fox Searchlight's SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE took advantage of its Oscar wins last week and expanded into almost 3,000 theaters, climbing to third place with $12.03M and a 16-week gross of $115.02M.

Fox's sleeper hit TAKEN continues to do good business, raking in another $9.9M, coming in fourth place and making $107.8M in five weeks. Ensemble romantic comedy HE'S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU (Warner Bros./New Line) came in fifth place with $6.01M and $78.7M in four weeks out.

Sony's PAUL BLART: MALL COP also is hanging in there, placing sixth this week (up one from last week) with $5.6M and a seven-week gross of $128.1M. Seventh place went to the stop-motion CORALINE (Focus Features, animation from Laika) with $5.3M and a four-week total of $61.1M.

Newcomer STREET FIGHTER: THE LEGEND OF CHUN LI (Fox, vfx by EFX, Sony Pictures Imageworks in India and Avatar VFX) opened in just 1,100 theaters for ninth place with $4.7M.

Disney's CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC placed ninth with $4.6M and a three-week cume of $33.8M. Cheerleader comedy FIRED UP! (Screen Gems, vfx by Lola Visual Effects) earned $3.7M for tenth place and a two-week total of $10.04M.

In animation, WALTZ WITH BASHIR (Sony Pictures Classics) made $205,098 in about 200 theaters for a 10-week gross of $1.85M. Universal's THE TALE OF DESPEREAUX (animation by Framestore) made another $135,145 for an 11-week total of $50.8M. FLY ME TO THE MOON (Summit Ent.) earned $31,813 and in 29 weeks has a gross of $13.03M.
