Johnny Depp Will Still Pocket Big for Lost Grindelwald Role

The beleaguered actor will still be paid an eight-figure salary for his portrayal of Gellert Grindelwald in ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’ due to pay-or-play contract, despite being fired from the role.

No work and all pay makes Johnny a happy boy! It turns out there is at least one upside to Johnny Depp’s recent drama with the Fantastic Beasts franchise. Before the actor was asked to resign from his role as Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3, he signed a pay-or-play contract, which guaranteed his fee even if he was recast or the film was never finished. Lucky for Depp, he filmed one scene before his sacking, meaning he gets to take home a reported eight-figure salary straight for doing practically no work at all. Take that, Warner Bros!

Depp can now use his previously allotted acting time to focusing on his other lawsuits against estranged ex-wife Amber Heard. With the recent outpouring of evidence against Heard, including audio of the actress admitting to abusing Depp, it will be interesting to see whose career is ultimately more greatly tarnished. A recent petition to remove Heard from Aquaman 2 has reached nearly one million signatures, possibly highlighting true public opinion of the actress. Either way, the “truth” will out!
