Joe Donaldson Joins Not To Scale Directorial Roster

Award-winning director, designer and animator lives in the world of 2D animation.

NEW YORK -- Not To Scale, the New York-based production and animation company with offices in Amsterdam and London, announced that it is welcoming award-winning director, designer, and animator Joe Donaldson to its already formidable roster of international filmmakers. Based in New York City, Joe lives in the world of 2D animation.

Joe’s most recent work includes directing, designing and animating The New York Times Modern Love: Under His Misspell, for which he was awarded a 2014 YCN Professional Award. Previous work includes working with Buck, Digital Kitchen, Google Creative Lab, The Mill, and Psyop.

Joe is also an active member of the animation community and in 2014 became an author and contributor to the industry leading website, Motionographer. He is constantly looking for new collaborative and independent projects to take on to expand his body of work and voice as an artist. Recent collaborations include an animation for Seneca College as well as a short film, which will be launching at the end of August.

“We are thrilled to have Joe join our growing directorial team at Not To Scale,” says Not To Scale Founder and Executive Producer Dan O’Rourke. “Joe has a skill for matching transitional storytelling with deftly designed imagery and we’re very much looking forward to giving Joe the help and support required to bring his skills as an emerging Director to the wider commercial market.”

“Joe’s proximity to our NY Studio is fantastic, for us, as we look to steadily strengthen our US based roster, Joe is a great addition, complementing our creative offering both here, and in Europe perfectly,” added New York Not To Scale EP/MD Santino Sladavic.

Joe’s journey began in 2010 when he left his position at the local ABC News station back in Gainesville Florida as he and his wife moved to Chicago where he earned his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Joe started his career in Chicago but later left the cold Midwestern winters behind for New York City where he and his wife currently reside in Brooklyn.

When not animating or drawing on his tablet Cintiq, Joe can be found spending time with his wife and two cats. Joe’s an avid BMX bicyclist. When not behind the computer he enjoys spending as much time on two wheels as possible. As he puts it “There’s nothing better than pedaling around the city exploring on a beautiful day.”
