Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ First Look Revealed

Director Todd Phillips revealed an image of the Oscar-winning thespian as Arthur Fleck receiving a seemingly unwanted shave in the ‘Joker’ sequel out October 4, 2024.

Joaquin Phoenix is back as Arthur Fleck in the first image from the Joker: Folie à Deux set. Director Todd Phillips recently took to Instagram to share the picture with the caption, “Day 1. Our boy. #joker.”

Mr. Fleck doesn’t seem too happy about the shave, but it doesn’t give us much in the way of plot. We do know the film will be a musical of sorts, centered on the relationship between Phoenix’s Joker and Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn. Currently, the cast includes Phoenix, Gaga, Zazie Beetz as Sophie Dumond, Jacob Lofland, Brendan Gleeson, Harry Lawtey, and Catherine Keener.

Set in a gritty ’80s Gotham, Joker was considered a standalone film, separate from the currently established DCU. This allowed the wayward project certain creative freedoms that resulted in not only an R rating, but a global box office of more than $1 billion, as well as Oscars for Best Actor and Best Original Score.

Returning for the mad sequel is director Phillips, who will again pen the script alongside Scott Silver. Production is set to begin in December. Visual effects on Joker were produced by Scanline VFX and Shade VFX for Production VFX Supervisor Edwin Rivera. No word yet on which studios will handle the new production.

Witness the madness with Joker: Folie à Deux, in theaters October 4, 2024.
