J.J. Abrams, Transformers Writers On the Fringe

FOX has committed to the new series FRINGE, a sci-fi/horror show from J.J. Abrams and TRANSFORMERS writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, reports the trades. Abrams is currently working with the writing duo on STAR TREK.

Produced by Warner Bros. and Bad Robot Prods., the pilot episode will be a two-hour special, budgeted at $10 million. Abrams, Kurtzman, Orci and LOST's Bryan Burk will exec produce. The producers are looking for a pilot director and an overall showrunner.

Abrams described the series as a cross between THE X-FILES, ALTERED STATES and THE TWILIGHT ZONE. The series will follow three leads characters, including a larger-than-life leader who balances between genius and madness, as they confront a new paranormal mystery in each episode.
